Gabian is an excellent example of this super popular catamaran from Lagoon. Owners version, never chartered, carefully used and maintained and fresh from her latest cruise, she is presented well and ready for her next owner to take her on their dream adventure!

Launched in 2008, Gabian (meaning seagull in French apparently) was voyaged from France to the Caribbean and back before being dry-stored for almost 3 years. Her second owners, a Swiss couple, added to her sails and electronics packages before sailing her to the Caribbean once more, before selling her to her current owners in 2017.

Her current owners, an experienced New Zealand family on their third offshore sailboat, have sailed her from the Caribbean, through Panama and Ecuador then down the South Pacific islands of French Polynesia, Cook Islands, Niue and Tonga.

Gabian is well presented with all systems studiously maintained, and all in excellent working order. Most systems have designed in redundancy, an essential feature for a successful remote cruising.

Major upgrades of standing rigging, mainsail, saildrives, canvaswork, batteries and PV system have allowed her to sail these extended ocean voyages without drama, and she’s ready for many more in the future.

There are plenty of reasons that this model is one of the most successful production sailing catamarans ever built.

The Lagoon 420 is probably the most volumous 42ft catamaran available, and the owners version of this popular model is even more spacious, with the port hull featuring a full size bathroom/shower up fwd, a settee and desk space amidships and a generous double berth aft.

Large hull side windows and generous hatches add to the open, airy feeling aboard.

Stb side features two double cabins, each with their own shower and head.

On deck, the Lagoon 420 is clean and simple. All lines lead back to the cockpit, complete with harken electric winches and jambers allowing for a single person to manage all but the spinnaker hoist without leaving the safety of the cockpit.

The cockpit is huge and sheltered by the hard dodger and provides a second dining table that can seat 10.

Each bow has a cavernous locker forward of the watertight bulkhead. Forward of the saloon there is a large saillocker and huge buson’s locker, big enough to store 4 bicycles, surfboards and more for the current owners.

Gabian came out of the factory as a diesel boat (some L420s were made as hybrids and later converted), and with under 2000hrs on her engines and under 2500hrs on her generator is lightly used for her age. Her powerful 10kW Onan generator is plenty capable of running her cabin and saloon air-conditioning, 100L/hr watermaker, hot water clarifier, battery charger and washing machine all at the same time. Alternatively hot water can be made from the port engine while battery charging, watermaker and washing machine can be run from either engine or from the 900+ watts of solar panels giving true versatility and redundancy.

Engine, saildrive, generator and watermaker maintenance has been carried out at recommended intervals and is clearly documented ready for her next owner. All new engine mounts 2018.

A full suite of Raymarine instruments from 2016 include two 12inch plotters, 12Nm radar, AIS. Her hydraulic autopilot is factory installed, and steers faithfully without fail in the roughest conditions.

Handheld GPS, Ipad, paper charts, 406 GPS epirb and Garmin Inreach, fixed and portable vhf’s complete the nav table.

Sailing, Gabian has a 2015 fully battened mainsail with continuous line reefing, allowing hoist and reefing without leaving the cockpit. Jib and Code0 are managed with roller furling, again from the cockpit. Just the socked spinnaker requires a crew up forward to help hoist and douse.

At approx. 14 tonne, she won’t race a Catana or an Outreemer, but she managed a respectable 7.2knot average to sail Galapagos to Marquasis in 18.5days with only 10hrs motoring, so passages need not be slow!

Professionally detailed including a full cut and polish in Jan 2020, she’s ready now for a new owner to step onboard and take her on her next adventure.
