'ANNKA" looks very much like an Oyster 60, with her powerful, elegant lines, deck saloon and center cockpit, but a closer look will reveal her as being far above what even the most prestigious production lines can offer. She was hand built by yacht builders renowned for building some of the most exclusive yachts and super-yachts in the world.
Designed by Berret & Racoupeau, with interior design by the celebrated super-yacht designer Pierre Frutschi, she was built by Garcia Yachting, the renown aluminum yacht designer in Normandy, France. Her first of only two owners had her built with precise expectations in mind, as a experienced sailor and very exigent owner who wanted a unique product far above what regular boat shows could provide.
'ANNKA" was purchased in 2013 by her current owner, who sailed her from Normandy to Australia, an idyllic cruise who took him and his wife to some of the most pristine and isolated parts of the world. A credit to their care and knowledge of the boat, (the owner is a electronic engineer who designs satellites), the Garcia 60 'ANNKA' presents as new, and would satisfy an exigent boat buyer looking for a luxury yacht better described as a super-yacht, and capable of taking him safely anywhere in the world in ultimate luxury.
'ANNKA' will turn heads wherever she goes, gleaming royal blue hull with rounded sides, an elevated center cockpit intelligently placed in a way that allows for a large sitting area and helm in the most protected part of the boat, as well as providing an immense and in-encumbered deck forward and aft, to a series of descending step lead to the swim platform and beautifully engineered stainless steel davits, supporting the robust Lomac 350LX Hypalon center console RIB with 4 stroke 20HP Yamaha outboard.
Everywhere you look, quality comes to mind, from the highest grade marine stainless fittings in abundance, to the beautiful Burmese teak of a thickness and tightness of grain rarely seen these days (and certainly not on production yacht), to the deep luster of her perfect condition gel coat, oversized deck fittings, top of the range deck hardware, etc.
This Garcia 60 is built of aluminum round construction league 5086 H111, 6060TS and 6082. TIG and MIG welding. Integral painting after sanding and covered with 10mm Epoxy layer throughout, before being painted with two pack polyurethane Awlgrip, which can be polished just like a gel coat. The hull was internally insulated from hot / cold and sound with 5cm of Styrodur up to 50cm below the waterline. High care has been dedicated to completely avoid the heat-bridges.
The deck saloon offers the ultimate of luxury, abundance of light, use of space and exquisite design by Pierre Frutschi, with double glaze tempered glass (instead of the standard perspex windows), solid maple for all of the boat's interior furniture (no laminated plywood here), and is further modernized by the mat dark chocolate solid timber floor in immaculate condition.
As safety is paramount to both owners ANNKA was designed with solid watertight doors to the bow, which separate the forward cabins with workshop and further into the anchor locker, making the boat unsinkable.
But going back to the cockpit now, where curved sides provide a large but extremely comfortable, luxurious space to keep the skipper company or entertain up to 10 guests in style. Soft leather in egg-shell are custom fitted to the seats and back rests, and the center table is of solid teak, with folding sides, with a center compartment fitted with a compressor and used as a cooler for drinks when having lunch or when under way. The cockpit trimmings and coverings are of solid, 10mm teak in soft silky silver in perfect condition. The beautiful joinery is a clear sign of the expertise demonstrated by the builders of this boat, who showed that their efforts were second to none when building this boat as a figure-head of the Garcia Yachts in 2003.
The helm, set a little back from the table, offers perfect visibility for and aft, and gives access to all of the electronics, power winch controls, anchor controls, bow thruster, etc. The skipper will not have to move if disinclined to do so, and there will be no need to move guests around when sailing and tacking. There are additional double controls adjacent to each winch, which are all self-tailing but also electric.
The Bimini has just been replaced, and the dodger will also be replaced with new shortly with top of the range Sunbrella canvas in light cream.
The companionway is large and easy to access, with plenty of space between the table and the door. Runners and frames are once again fashioned with the thickest and finest grain teak in perfect condition, with no ribbing or discoloration.
Coming down into the saloon, one realizes once again that this boat is in a league of her own. The curved joinery, silky sold maple in light colour for a modern and light-filled feel, luxurious creamy leather, immaculate and uncluttered presentations we could not help but being amazed that this boat has sailed half way around the world. ANNKA looks as perfect as the day she was launched.
Curving softly around a beautifully designed table, (which is extendable and can accommodate 10 people for dinner, or become the exquisite setting for a more intimate dinner), is the saloon in soft beige top quality leather, which was treated to become waterproof and stain resistant. The large windows bring an abundance of light during the day, or can be shielded with custom-designed blinds when shade is needed. Luxury and artistry of design and manufacture is visible everywhere you look, from the curved shelves, intelligently placed cupboards, air conditioning outlets hidden behind tastefully fashioned timber frames that blend with their surroundings, etc. The small fittings, such as light switches (Vola) and other small hardware (Mel Jack, Paris), were specifically chosen and purchased at extravagant prices from world renowned designers. The owners have paid particular attention to the quality of the entertainment systems, with all surround Bose sound system with tastefully hidden sub inside the cabin and in the cockpit, and a flat screen home theater system that disappears out of sight at the touch of button.
To starboard is the navigation area, with a comfortable seat, and access to all the ultra-modern navigation and communication systems. Once again, the boat's interior design defies what is available on the market in terms of intelligence and taste, with for example a large size printer / scanner that slides when needed in and out of a specifically built compartment built of solid maple.
Aft and into a separate cabin is a small office with repeaters for all navigation systems, so that the skipper can continue to attend to his business's demands if necessary, without having to move back and forth to the navigation table. This office is also exquisitely furnished, and free of clutter, with a designer chair or soft red leather comfortable to use for long period of time in all weather.
To port now, stepping down to port into the galley, it is immediately apparent that ANNKA's owners have been first French and then Italians! A true gourmet galley with Corian numerical control cut for all top-planes, Vola fittings and taps, Miele appliances with Dishwasher, stove, oven, ventilation vacuum hatch, etc., abundant dedicated storage and food preparation areas, and a beautiful, light atmosphere. The galley may be down a little from the saloon, but is situated in a way to not isolate the hostess from her hosts, yet will provide enough for professional catering crew to attend to meal preparation without impeding on the guests. A huge stainless steel stand up fridge with its own light and separate large freezer in a clever slide-out cupboard with top loading box ensure that you will be able to store plenty of gourmet cold food for your ocean passages. The designer double stainless steel sink with Vola tapware in Corion beds and fitted with Insinkerator waste disposal.
The whole, extremely large aft part of the boat is reserved for the stateroom, which is almost as big as an apartment, with a king size bed with access on three sides, elegant furnishing and ample storage. The stateroom also gives access to a large ensuite bathroom presenting immaculately with all fittings from Vola ($2500 for a simple shower head), with rain-like fixed shower, as ell as another hand shower head, all enclosed from the rest of the bathroom. The bathroom also gives access to a door enclosing the 6 kg EAG washing machine and Electrolux dryer, which were added in 2010. So as to never worry about water usage, an extra large (240L / hour) water maker from Sea Recovery was fitted. This system was overhauled in 2015, with new motors, hp pump, membranes and a new fresh water pressure system with high capacity stainless steel pump and backup pump were fitted new in 2012.
Forward of the saloon and completely separated from the master's quarters, are the guests accommodation, with a large VIP cabin with queen size bed, plenty of storage and ensuite head and shower, and another children or crew cabin with two full size single bunks and also ample storage. Another guest bathroom with head and shower is to starboard, which can be used by visitors or overnight guests.
The boat is equipped with air conditioning with separate controls and isolated in the saloon and each cabins and a diesel heating system from Idronic Eberspacher which is connected to the air conditioning system (new 2012).
Forward again and accessed via the watertight bulkhead and door is the workshop, which is clean enough to perform surgery, and organizes tools and spares in specifically designed draws and small compartments. The floor is safe non-skid molded aluminum. This area gives interior access to the sail locker (also accessed via the deck).
Designed to sail around the world trouble-free, everything on board was chosen to cater for the most trying conditions with ease and grace. Built and launched in one of the most difficult sailing area in the world (the French side of the English Channel), where incredibly strong currents, shallow bottom floor making for very steep and violent seas as the whole Atlantic Ocean forces its way int the North Sea over rapidly diminishing ocean depth, and high latitudes combining cold air from the Arctic with warm air from the Gulf Stream descending down from the Azores, this area will also challenge the most veteran sailor with its ever changing, violent and often unpredictable weather patterns. Yachtsmen in this part of the world must be prepared, along with their vessel, for some serious encounters with raging oceans, which if it is not bad enough on its own must also be combined with having to remain vigilant at all time as it is also one of the most heavy shipping traffic. As a result, ANNKA was built very differently from many boats displayed at boat shows around the world, which life on the water will be mostly to provide her owners with an entertaining or relaxing platform in their favorite bay. Beneath her luxurious fit-out and polished looks, ANNKA is a true ship, designed at enormous expenses to be fast, elegant, comfortable but also incredibly safe and strong. This way of thinking was applied not at the time of assembling her thick aluminum hull, but through the installation of each protective layer, electrical installation, safety equipment, deck bounding, keel and bulb bounding, but also on deck, with her oversized for strength hydraulic furlers, backstay, vang and windlass, rigging, mast, spars, deck hardware, running rigging etc.
ANNKA was also designed to be at home in idyllic, tropical atolls, hence her moderate draft and elongated lead bulb, which was bounded to the keel over a thick Epoxy galvanic protection plate, hence ensuring, as throughout the whole philosophy of her build, the longevity and structural integrity of her hull.
As stern-to berthing is the norm in most Mediterranean ports, a beautiful Opacmare passarelle was built for the yacht, allowing safe access to and from docks.
As this yacht wished to explore parts of the world running a different electrical voltage, the boat was wired and equipped with this in mind. The shore power will adapt through a 50A Marinco Insulation Transformer to whatever voltage is used wherever you are. To cater for all her electrical needs when away from marinas a Northern Lights generator capable of powering a veritable ship (12KVA), was installed and completed removed and re-fitted in 2012 in preparation for the current owner's cruise, with alternator, senders and electronic voltage regulator board.
ANNKA's Volvo Penta engine is installed midships, with full access via easily removable floor, making routine maintenance or repairs a breeze. It is oversized for the size of the boat, with a powerful 140HP. It is shaft driven (as most big boats), with a well secured prop mounted on a three-quarter solid sleeve. The engine was overhauled before crossing the Pacific in October 2015 (precaution only) and fitted with a new gearbox. It is protected with the fuel cleaner and conditioning system Algae X with PLC (New 2010). The diesel capacity gives ANNKA a remarkable range, with 1550L of diesel in 4 tanks, plus a day tank with automatic refill. Max Prop 3 blades with Spurs line & net cutter blades.
Once again, as ANNKA's owners took no chance with safety, she was equipped to the ninth using the extended French safety standards, including life raft for 12 people (new 2015) with extended provision, ample fire safety / response devices, 4 electric bilge pumps, 2 of them large output stainless steel, and of course the water tight bulkhead. The boat also comes with 1 X Rocna 55 kgs (New 2015), 1 X Fortress FX85, 1 X spade 1kg anchors and 105m of 14mm chain plus 75m of high tenacity rope.
The yacht is also equipped with top of the range electronics and communication systems, many of them were upgraded in 2015, including instruments from B&G, new Gyrocompass, two totally independent autopilots: 1 X B&G. Actuators Lecomble & Smith (New 2014) and 1 X electrical Raymarine autopilot. There are two GPS from Furuno (One new 2015), AIS (Furuno FA50 with separate antenna and GPS (New 2011), Radar 36 miles Funuro Digital with Navnet 3D chartplotter and Pacific Ocean charts (completely new 2015). External WIFI antenna with Uniquiti Bullet router (New 2015), Mini M and Standard C satellite phone and data communication (new board 2014). Furuno ultrasonic wind and atmospheric pressure sensor RoWind. SSB radio from Icom with auto-tuner and antenna. VHF is from Furuno, with 2 antennas, internal and external operations and control from Navtex Furuno.
This Garcia 60 Center Cockpit is a powerful cruising yacht with an amazing turn of speed, yet she can be handled safely by one or two people, with her intelligent sail plan, bow thruster, well situated controls and instruments, bow thruster, etc. She may look amazing in the marina, but sailing her is a simply exhilarating experience, especially when most boats have turned around becuase of a difficult weather and you are left to roam free among the white caps. Her cockpit will keep you dry, warm and safe, but you will not miss the action! If the going gets rougher water may tumble across the beautiful decks, but none will find its way inside, thanks to her over engineered, quality deck fittings and raised cockpit sides.
