New Webber BBQ 2018
-------------------------
‘Ponyo’ is a Fontaine Pajot Lavezzi Maestro 40 four cabins version which is presented in turn key condition.
This boat was never chartered and was sailed by three cruising families in succession, who meticulously maintained and upgraded her.
She was commissioned in 2008 and delivered to Florida for her first owners, a retired couple who cruised her gently between the US and the Bahamas until 2014 when she was purchased by a family with young children who then explored the South Pacific for 3 years.
Her current owners, also with young children (the youngest was a few days old when they moved on board) have followed in Ponyo's previous family's footsteps and cruised extensively between New Zealand and Fiji, and have now arrived back in New Zealand, where they are now offering the boat for sale as they have purchased a larger catamaran. During their time on Ponyo, they continuously upgraded and perfected this lovely boat, which is presented in remarkable condition and fully ready for you to begin your own cruising adventures.
Ponyo is a happy boat, fresh, clean, delightfully presented, and with all the usual suspects taken care of: the rigging was replaced, the sails were purchased in 2017, all new hull fittings throughout, new watermaker, etc. etc. This boat is ready to sail on with nothing to spend.
Kept in immaculate condition, with hardly any noticeable wear and tear either inside or outside, it is hard to believe that this yacht has been the home of two young families for the past 5 years, keeping them safe and comfortable no matter the weather and length of the voyage. Then again, having sold quite a few Fontaine Pajots over the years with similar ocean miles under their intelligently designed hulls, we are once again impressed at the ease with which these yachts cross oceans.
This Lavezzi 40 four cabin version, never chartered, in such great condition and with such extensive upgrades is a rare find.
Ponyo is a big, comfortable boat, well suited to life on board. The amount of storage is remarkable, as well as her multitude of portholes and hatches, which provide abundance of light and ventilation, which is complimented if you want extra comfort with the 2 separate reverse cycle air conditioning systems. Spending winter in cold NZ won’t be a problem, nor would be summer in the tropics.
The headroom is 6.4+ throughout, even in the forward cabins. Designed on a indoor-outdoor flow, the cockpit and saloon become one huge relaxation and entertaining area when the sliding door is open, with almost level access to steerage, which many find better than the larger catamaran's turret' ' type cockpit, often exposing the skipper to the elements and making communication and companionship difficult when in the sea way.
With 530L water tanks as well as its ultra-efficient 60l / h water maker, there is no need to rush to port or shorten showers. Designed to remain 'off the grid' for as long as possible, the boat can provide for its own power and water needs, thanks to its 850 Watt solar panels, huge battery bank and a 6kwa generator.
Basically handed over with everything you need to start your cruising life now, the huge inventory also includes a vast array of tools and spare parts.

A WORD FROM THE OWNERS:
"Ponyo (Fountaine Pajot Lavezzi) was commissioned in 2008 to a couple in Florida where it sailed between Bahamas and Florida up until 2014 when family from Great Britain decided to sail her under name Skylark across Pacific ocean. The Skylark family enjoyed 3 years cruising Pacific and had to stop sailing as the oldest daughter went to high school.
As Skylark started searching for new owners we were looking for our new home. We had sailed East coast of Australia and loved cruising life but sea sickness and rolly anchorages on our monohull made us look for alternatives - stop cruising or try switching to 2 hulls. We posted our story to facebook group ‘Kids4sail’ where Skylark family reached out to us and invited to Fiji to stay few night on the boat and decide if we feel better about cruising and sailing catamaran.
We absolutely loved the experience!
Firstly, the interior is very open, airy and inviting, layout is perfect for having guests over, 4 bedrooms for our family (mum, dad and 2 girls) means that we can have another family with 1-2 kids over in comfort - each family will have accomodation in separate hull.
Secondly, catamaran is very stable at the anchorage or while sailing at sea. We were very surprised when Skylark family served breakfast and we started sailing while having breakfast seating at the table. Previously we had to stove away everything before moving anywhere on our monohull, I had so many cups of coffee flying over the saloon or even myself that a simple fact of putting a cup of coffee on the table and finding it there with all liquid still in the cup, was a miracle to me.
Then we were impressed by sailing performance - we could easily sail 8 knots in calm seas. Wide and flat deck makes it easy to walk around a boat and make all necessary sail adjustments or fly a parasail.
Having 2 engines on the boat is a great point too, firstly it’s a safety redundancy and then it’s making all fine manoeuvres and docking a bliss - no more thinking which way the prop walk will go or worrying about loosing steering if the boat speed is too slow, now we could graciously get into the pen in marinas and step out (not jump out) the boat to the dock for lines.
We spent 2 beautiful years aboard Ponyo, we looked after her and she looked after and us.
These are improvements we made
Our family had grown during this time too - our little Nicole joined Ponyo crew and moved aboard when she was just few days old, it’s amazing how kids friendly (kids are always at arms reach) and kids proof (all cabinetry has lockers) our boat is.
Michelle - our 4 year old daughter had seen dolphins, little penguins, turtles, sharks, sea snakes, whales and lots of times of fish from trampolines, she learned how to snorkel from the sugar-scoops so she can see coral reefs of Tonga and Fiji with her own eyes not through the screen.
We enjoyed watching sunsets sitting on the sail bag. We shared our adventure with our parents when they came over to visit.
We had great friends gatherings like Nicole’s first birthday which we celebrated on Minerva reef while waiting out a storm with our lovely friend boats.
Ponyo showed us that we as a family with 2 little kids can venture across the sea and see magical Minerva reef, Tonga and Fiji."
