-------------------
This beautiful sailing yacht was custom built in 2003 by the shipyard Class Yacht on a design of Jean-Marie Finot for a professional racing sailor who wanted a performance cruising yacht able to sail him and his family fast and safely around the world. He kept her for 10 years and sold her to an Italian colleague, another racing and professional skipper who was looking for the exact same quality in a cruising yacht and who after purchase in 2013 and throughout his cruising years whenever he identified something as needing to be replaced..
The list of upgrades is impressive and ensures that the boat will continue to deliver performance and safety at sea for her new family.
Sadly, a change of circumstances has seen her voyage interrupted for now as the owner must return to Italy. Months of cruising were wasted in Covid-19 lockdown and her voyage has been cut short. If borders are now strrating to re-open for cruisers as they have the privilege to be in isolation at sea for long period of time and represent little danger to visited countries, Zahir's owner has run out of time.
The yacht has been handed over to our team in Fiji to take care of her and to liaise with you should you be interested to find out more. Since Covid-19 rendered actual visits a little tricky, we are now very used to carry out inspections via Zoom or WhatsApp, which is working very well and are happy to spend as much time with you as you wish showing you the boat via your iPad, phone or Computer. We are cruising yachts specialist and are here to help
Zahir is an exceptional boat, which combines a sleek, racing profile with a serious 'can do attitude' designed to be at home in all ocean conditions.
Her 8mm GRP construction has been reinforced with additional layers of Kevlar over the whole hull for extra strength and resistance to impact should you be unlucky enough to hit something at sea.
To prevent twisting and bending of the hull while under stress (very much a problem on production boats), her hull is further reinforced with a stainless steel frame similar to the designs of the Nautor Swans and X-Yachts designed for serious bluewater cruising. Her keel is not just attached to the GRP hull. It is attached to the steel frame first and thus incredibly well bonded to the boat.
Her chainplates are attached to a reinforced stainless steel brace which reached deep towards the centre of the boat and help spread the chainplates efforts.
Her decks, which used be GRP / closed cell foam sandwich with teak covering, has been fully renovated and reinforced in 2013. Instead of replacing the teak, which was aged, the owner had the teak removed and the deck throughly prepared for strengthening.
3 additional layers of glass matt and epoxy high-build were applied followed with a non-skid paint from an excellent manufacturer in New Zealand. The decks now have an 8mm Epoxy lamination and are extremely strong as well as low maintenance.
Her sails were replaced in 2019 and her rigging in 2018. Her reliable Yanmar engine was removed and completely rebuilt. All through-hull fittings were replaced. The lost goes on...
Zahir, true to her form as a yacht design to circumnavigate, also come with a spare, emergency rudder that is ready to drop in brackets already fitted to the transom in case of failure. The rudder comes with its own tiller, and there is the additional emergency tiller ready to deploy.
Self-Steering, one of the most important factor for solo-sailors, is supplied by a reliable autopilot, with an additional autopilot wired and ready to use at the push of a button should the primary one fail... plus the sturdy Wind Pilot, perfect for ocean crossings.
Watching the owner effortlessly raise the sails and power into the wind at Musket Cove the other day, it is easy to see that his claim that the boat is set up for solo sailing is absolutely justified. Steering comfortably between the reefs, he quickly gained momentum and in spite the very light breeze quickly had us chasing him on the speed boat. (Watch our Youtube Video)
Power winches take the hard work out of raising and trimming the sails, while dedicated clutched for each rope make cleats and other agricultural deck hardware redundant.
Aesthetically hidden in the deep and wide anchor locker the retractable carbon fibre bowsprit is ready to be easily deployed to fit out the Gennaker.
Anchoring is done seamlessly, with the dedicated anchor bowsprit and articulated roller tease the friction of the sail on retrieval. There are two anchors, onearelady fittedtoits100m stainless steel chain, which is big enough to hold Zahir through any whims the weather. An additional anchor is stored below.
For those used to having to flake anchor chain or risk their limbs spreading the chain bulk in order to de-anchor, Zahir boast the rare and very refreshing asset not having this issue. The chain falls into a deep well with plenty of room to accomodate even that amount of chain all pulled up in one go.
The cockpit is wide and open, with very good shade to get away from the tropical sun or rain and to entertain many guests for dinner. Because of arrow Zahir's shape, it is wide and the centre table does not impede on traffic. The two carbon fibre wheels are sturdy and not too large, giving you back space for when you want to move around. The cockpit has several large lazarettes and storage lockers, as well as the access hatch for the engine and another one for the steering quadrant. (The video shows it all. Inside, Jean-Marie Finot does not let us down. The superb saloon is wide open and welcoming. The galley, U-shape is large is suited to cooking while at sea.
The saloon, which curves around a mahogany table, is comfortable and large enough to sit 8 people comfortably. The headroom is over 6.4 at it's minimum.
Forward is the Master cabin, with it's queen size bed and full-size settee in white leather still in very good condition. The cabin door, large and curved, slides into into the bulkhead to free up space.
Forward is the large ensuite head area with shower and electric toilet.
Forward again is the crew cabin, which can be accessed via the deck hatch or a door in the forward bathroom. It has single bunk beds, a manual toilet and wash-basin.
A large sail locker is accessed via a deck hatch forward of the crew cabin.
Going back aft are two guests cabins with queen / king size beds and each their own ensuite electric head and shower.
Storage for everything is abundant and well-suited to extended life onboard.

A WORD FROM THE OWNER:
'I did about 40 1000 miles from Greece to Fiji. So far Zahir has never betrayed me and even in the most complex conditions she was always fast and comfortable . I sailed under almost 50 knots of wind due to a hurricane with the foresail an autopilot. The boat was sailing as we were in a summer crossing in Croatia! I was a little worried but we never went into crisis. She's fast and stable . The hull is perfect for ocean crossing.
I am selling the sailboat for a bigger one for my next project . I did many improvements for long cruising voyages and fast sailing passages . All the heavy work has been done. She is fully equipped to keep going and to live comfortably on the ocean for long periods of time . A few cosmetic items which I was planning on doing need to be done by her new owners I have listed them carefully above . They include some varnishing to the timber work inside the cabin. A hull repaint If desired for cosmetic purposes as a 2 pack epoxy used in 2013 to paint over old blue gelcoat was faulty and is now bubbling . Other than this and perhaps a few upgrades to your personal taste Zahir is ready to take you anywhere at a moment’s notice. I must return to Italy and the boat is handed over to you with everything on board to begin your life on the ocean today . There are numerous spare parts tools and everything you need to make yourself at home."
IMPERFECTIONS:
Topside paint is gelcoat but needs to be refinished. The boat was repainted in 2013 but the two pack paint was defective. Heavy sanding, filling and fairing required before re-finishing. Cosmetic issue only.
Radar to repair (not sending)
Bowthruster needs a new relay. Easy fix and part ordered but taking time to reach Fiji with Covid-19.
Interior varnishing in places
Saloon floor in the middle of being replaced. All cabins already done and floor is brand new (see pictures)
Repair wind generator or may need replacing. Installation is fine, including wiring, controller and pole.
