Designed by the internationally renown Lock Crowther and built by Langbridge Boatbuilders, 'Aeolus' has always been lovingly maintained and upgraded, and presents immaculately inside and out.
Fully re-sprayed with two pack polyurethane paint Awlgrip) in 2014, decks repainted in 2016, antifouled and prop-speed in 2016, fully re-rigged in 2013 and equipped with recent electronics, she is a fast and capable cruising boat, suitable for fun family sailing on the harbor or extended coastal sailing.

Her owners have recently returned from a 5 months cruise from Sydney to the Whitsundays and back, and were very pleased with how she handled sometimes difficult winter weather. 'Aeolus' has had three owners, who each sailed her up and down the coast several times, hence her proven cruising records. When asked about how she handles the ocean, her owners, who are past 'hard and fast' mono-hull sailors with several Pacific journeys under their belt, can only describe her with an awed smile as being the fastest, most comfortable boat they have ever had the joy to sail. As a trimaran she sails to the wind almost as well as a modern monohull, but she is much, much faster. She does not see-saw, slams into waves as low clearance catamarans do, and is incredibly easy to balance on all points of sail. Her rig is much better supported than on a mono-hull, she is un-sinkable, and she is very strong. As she clears only 3 foot of water with her centre-board up she can nestle close to the shore and will find a place with plenty of room even in over-crowded anchorages (that's because most people have monohulls need a lot of water beneath them), she can be beached for a good rub, and she can power at 6.5 to 8 knots under an engine for only 2L of fuel per hour. The list goes on...

Unlike other similar Crowther trimarans, her main hull is built of GRP, and only her outriggers are built of marine ply sheathed in GRP. The result is a very strong boat which remains light and easy to maintain. If her core is composite (just like any modern production boat, which are either balsa or foam core), it is actually stronger than what Balsa would offer, and perhaps if a little heavier, it certainly offers more stability in the outriggers and a much more solid construction. This Crowther Buccaneer Trimaran is epoxy primed and painted with Awlgrip, which will remain splendid for at least 10 years and is polish-able.

Her cockpit was modified in early 2000's to accommodate another half-cockpit, hence significantly improving her outdoor living areas. This additional cockpit creates a perfect eating area, or vantage point from which to watch the action when the boat is under sail.

The cockpit itself is well protected from the elements, offers very good visibility thanks to her recently changed dodger, and offers access to everything you need to sail and navigate without having to venture on deck in bad weather.
Electronics, sheets, wheel, engine controls and instruments are all here and user-friendly.

The deck and deck access is safe and the volume it offers, combined with the trampolines on either sides of the centre-hull and the outriggers is quite amazing when you are used to a monohull or even a catamaran. With 26' of beam, the impression of space, stability and safety is amazing. Each outriggers also offers huge storage capacity, and with a 70cm deck clearance the motion through the water remains comfortable and dry. The acceleration of this boat is exhilarating, and her turn of speed quite addictive, all the while remaining comfortable.

Being a trimaran, stabilizing the boat at anchor or mooring is very easy, as you are attached from the main hull's bow and can run braces from each outrigger bow to keep the boat 'straight' into the wind (to the great envy of many mono-hull owners who will be doing 'figures-of-eight' as soon as the wind begins to climb).

The accommodation on the Crowther Trimaran is quite generous and well thought-of. Coming down the companionway on the port side is the galley, which is large, very well equipped (the lady owner is an amazing cook), and offers plenty of dedicated storage. A large top loading fridge, stove, oven and pressurized water combined with plenty of bench space makes this galley a little gastronome paradise.

Opposite the galley on the port side is the navigation area, with a large chart table, switchboards, radio etc. The large screen plotter can be angled to face wither the cabin or the cockpit.

Mid-ships is the saloon/dinette, with access to two double bunks (one on either side). The beds are comfortable and with enough head clearance, unlike other designs who often see the berths areas smaller and too close to the ceiling for comfort. Several deck hatches provide plenty of natural light when needed, or can remain covered when needing some shade.

Forward in the bow is the head area, which if it is accessed by a smallish entry-way is nevertheless spacious and with very good head-room. The forward section of the boat is a storage space or Bosun's locker, perfect for drying wet weather gear or stowing ropes, extra sails or equipment.

'Aeolus' is cherished by her owners and continually given the best of everything. The reliable Volvo engine was fully serviced in December 2015 and every 100 hours prior. Her batteries were all replaced between 2014 and 2015 ad are kept charged by a powerful alternator and 2 X 80 watts solar panels, which ensure that you will not have to worry about power shortage. The boat itself uses very little power, with most lights having been replaced to LED and everything running on low-wattage 12V.
